In heeding to the government call of creating employment space for the Youth who account for over 50% of the population in Tanzania (source: National Census 2022). SATF partnered with Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO) to develop a Tailor-made Skills Development course which targeted Out of school vulnerable Youth. This category of beneficiaries is rarely included in most projects compared to the in-school ones. The pilot project targeted 50 Vulnerable out of school Youth from Mkuranga and Kibiti Districts, Pwani region. Among those, 23 (46%) are male and 27 (54%) are female. The recruitment process was done in a participatory way, involving the Community members, Local Government Authorities and JIMOWACO who is SATF implementing partner in Pwani region. The main objective of the project was to build skills on using simple technology for making market demanded products hence creating sustainable income generating projects among Youth from these areas. The recruited beneficiaries were trained in two main courses, namely tailoring and bag making. Trained beneficiaries have been facilitated to form working groups and they will be provided with startup toolkits. Our Implementing partner in Mkuranga (JIMOWACO) in collaboration with the office of Community development in the respective Districts. For continuity and sustainability purposes of the groups, the Community Development office will play a vital role in nurturing these groups by exposing them to the market and other opportunities available in their locality.
